Powerball is one of the biggest US official jackpotting lotteries. Every week, there are thousands of winners all around America. We’re here to help if you’ve ever wondered what it would seem like to be one of these Powerball winners but are unsure how to participate. We’ll walk you through the various Powerball Division rewards, the Powerball winning combinations, and how much you may win in this short and simple tutorial to playing Powerball.

Note that the current jackpot for the USA lottery results can change depending on when the jackpot was last won. Also, smaller sums are available if not all of your numbers are drawn.

Playing Powerball Lottery

A standard $2 Powerball ticket is available. You must select a Powerball number from 1 to 26 and five numbers from 1 to 69 to participate. You win the jackpot if the six numbers you chose match those drawn. If some of your numbers are drawn but not all of them, additional steadily lower prizes are available.

Will 2 numbers win anything in Powerball? Unfortunately, there are no prizes for matching two white balls without the Powerball. But the seventh prize tier, worth $7, is yours if you match the Powerball with two white balls. Even if it’s a smaller prize than the game-changing jackpot you’ve been hoping for, it still adds to the thrill of playing the lottery.

Double Play and Power Play

You can add a “Power Play” for one dollar more. Depending on the multiplier number drawn from the hat before the draw itself, wins are multiplied by 2, 3, 4, 5, or 10. But if you win the $1 million second prize, Power Play isn’t used, and the multiplier is never greater than two.

You can also pay $1 for a “Double Play” in various states, including Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Dakota, South Carolina, and Washington. Following the Powerball drawing, players’ numbers are added to a second drawing with a potential cash prize of $10 million.

Why is There a Jackpot of Two Figures?

A lump sum or annual payments spaced out over 29 years are options available to Powerball jackpot winners. If they choose the latter, known as the “annuity option,” they receive the entire jackpot in a series of escalating payouts. If they choose the lump sum, their “cash value” will be lower.

The annuity is put in government bonds over 29 years, allowing payments to climb by 5% annually, according to the Powerball organizers, who also explain the discrepancy between the two jackpot sums. Wins are pre-tax, so keep that in mind.
